There are many things webmasters must do on a regular basis to ensure that their web sites stay current. Some of the tasks you should be performing are listed below.
Promote
You must promote your web site constantly. This is critical in order to ensure that people continue to visit your site day after day. You can't just build it and leave it.
Check your links
Another task that must be performed on a regular basis is checking for "Dead Links". This is the tendency for broken links to appear all over a site. It is most common with external links (sites move, are abandoned or are modified all of the time) but can occur occasionally with internal links.
Update your content
If your website is always the same there is no reason for someone to come back again, they've already seen it so why return? One major way to get them to come back is to change the content constantly. Search Engine Ranking will drop dramatically if your website is not updated.
Monitor Site Statistics
Subscribe to a service which checks your site on a regular basis. It is important to constantly check your site statistics to see what your traffic is doing. You will need to check where your vistors are coming from, what pages they are visiting and how long they stay.
Your website design should be kept up to date.
The design that may be popular this year may not necessarily be the most popular type of design in later years. Peoples tastes in colors, fonts and design layouts are continually changing. You may have new text, pictures, contact info.
